Police Commissioner Raymond Siu said on Sunday that liaison officers will promote national security education at schools following the arrest of many young people during the 2019 protests.

Speaking on an RTHK television programme, Siu said over 10,000 people had been arrested during the 2019 social unrest, with some 40 percent being young people.

Siu advised young people not to join organisations that promote the division of the country and to be cautious about any information they find online.

He also noted that police monitor online platforms daily for misleading information.

If the information is intended to incite others to engage in illegal activities, the force will take action to arrest those responsible.

He said the police's Public Relations Department has established a protocol to clarify any fake news or misinformation within two hours.
