Kwai Chung Hospital said late on Sunday that it would investigate whether the recent removal and installation of false ceilings had anything to do with a safety incident last night in which a nurse was hurt.

At about 8 pm, an approximately 60-centimetres-long by 30-centimetres-wide false ceiling in a psychiatric ward fell down and hit the nurse on the head. The nurse reported mild pain and went to the Accident & Emergency Department at Princess Margaret Hospital for a check-up.

Kwai Chung Hospital said it was very concerned about the incident and that it would arrange an inspection of all false ceilings in the treatment room concerned. It said the incident did not involve the structural safety of the building or concrete that had deteriorated. The hospital also said patient services were not affected.
