Infectious disease expert Ivan Hung on Sunday said Covid infection figures should drop in two to three weeks.

The number of Covid cases has been rising since April, and the Centre for Health Protection reported more than 400 infections on several days last week.

Hung, who heads the infectious disease division at the University of Hong Kong medical school, told a TV programme the current wave of infections has peaked and that he expects the number of cases to go down before July.

The academic said it is possible that Covid cases will rebound every six months in the next few years, as people's antibody levels start dwindling after getting infected or a Covid jab. But he said the number of infections each time would be lower than the previous one.

Hung advised elderly people and chronically ill patients to get a booster shot every six months to better protect themselves. They should also wear a mask in crowded places when there are more cases in the community, he said.
