A hotline for people with queries about alterations made to flats went into operation on Friday.
The service, which will run until at least July 21, comes after the government told Legco that authorities will step up publicity and conduct more checks on illegal building works.
The Buildings Department said in a statement that a number of people have recently had concerns about changes made to their flats, or wanted to determine where the load-bearing walls are located.
People with questions can call 3842-5375 between 9am and 5am on weekdays.
The department, along with architects, engineers and surveyors, will also hold a talk for the public next month on home alterations.
