National security police said late on Monday that they had arrested a 63-year-old man on suspicion of repeatedly publishing social media posts with seditious intention.
The suspect was held during an operation in Tsim Sha Tsui. Officers searched his home and office, seizing electronic devices that are thought to have been used to post the messages.
Police say the posts incited the overthrow of the Central Authorities, provoked hatred towards the Beijing and SAR governments and advocated independence for Hong Kong and Taiwan. They're also said to have desecrated the national anthem and flag.
The suspect is being held for further enquiries.
