A delegation led by the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong, Liu Guangyuan, visited BYD in Xian on Wednesday as their inspection trip to the mainland entered the fifth day.
The group of business leaders and consuls general were briefed on the manufacturing process and patented technology of the company, which specialises in the production of new energy automobiles and rechargeable batteries.
Erik Bleekrode from the Dutch Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong said he was "blown away" by the technology, adding that global cooperation can make production cheaper.
"For me, the biggest advantage here is the size and scale of the local market," he said. "We need to make these cars better, cheaper and more efficient, and the only way to do that is by collaborating."
BYD said the Xian factory has become a key new energy vehicle base along with its Shenzhen headquarters. In the first five months of this year, the company sold more than a million new energy vehicles, up 98 percent from last year.
