Police said a ten-car pile-up in Cheung Sha Wan on Thursday morning was caused in part by a monkey running onto a major trunk road.

Officers said the accident on Ching Cheung Road near Caritas Medical Centre took place at around 7:20am.

A west-bound private car tried to brake to avoid the monkey, but failed and killed it.

That led to a multi-car pile-up at the back, involving five taxis, three private cars and a light goods van.

No one was injured in the case, but it caused serious congestion on the Kwai Chung-bound road during the morning rush hour.

At one point, the tail end of the queue reached Lung Poon Court in Wong Tai Sin.
