The government said it is investigating a fatal work accident that occurred at a construction site in Tseung Kwan O on Tuesday.

The case involved a construction worker who died after collapsing inside a water tank where he was conducting waterproofing works.

The Labour Department (LD) on Wednesday expressed high concern over the incident, and said in a statement that it has ordered the suspension of works for the time being.

"The contractors cannot resume the work process until the LD is satisfied that measures to abate the relevant risks have been taken," a department spokesperson said.

"We will complete the investigation as soon as possible to identify the cause of the accident, ascertain the liability of the duty holders and recommend improvement measures. We will take actions pursuant to the law if there is any violation of the work safety legislation."
