Tributes have been pouring in for Hong Kong-born singer Coco Lee, who died at the age of 48 after a lengthy battle with depression.
Her sisters, Carol and Nancy, made the announcement in a social media post on Wednesday, saying the pop star’s “trademark bright smile” will always be remembered.
"Coco is also known to have worked tirelessly to open up a new world for Chinese singers in the international music scene, and she went all out to shine for the Chinese. We are proud of her!" they wrote.
Artists who have worked with Lee described her as an iconic legend.
"May the world remember your smile, your talent and your positive influence," Hong Kong and Hollywood actress Fala Chen wrote in her social media post.
Mandopop singer-songwriter Wang Leehom called Lee a "brave pioneer" whose spirit will never fade.
“In the music industry, Coco Lee broke international barriers, before any other Chinese singer did. Let’s always remember her, as a brave pioneer, and an important musical legend," he said.
Singaporean singer JJ Lin also paid tribute to Lee in an Instagram post, describing her as "one of the most iconic performers of all time".
"The music universe will never be the same without you, we will miss you very much," he wrote.
