Shanghai stocks opened lower on Monday ahead of the release of mainland economic growth data, while Hong Kong's market was closed owing to a typhoon.
The Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.58 percent to 3,219, while the Shenzhen Composite Index on the mainland's second exchange dipped 0.34 percent to 2,051.
Hong Kong officials cancelled morning trading and were also likely to call off the afternoon session after the government warned a No 8 typhoon signal would remain in force well into the afternoon. (AFP)
