The Hong Kong Observatory said it will downgrade the No.8 typhoon signal to a No.3 signal at 4:20pm, as Typhoon Talim moves away from the territory.

At 2pm, Typhoon Talim was centred about 280 kilometres southwest of Hong Kong and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 18 kilometres per hour in the general direction of Leizhou Peninsula.

“With Talim continuing to depart from Hong Kong, local winds are weakening gradually. The observatory will issue the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 to replace the No. 8 Gale or Storm Signal at 4:20pm,” the weatherman said in a statement.

“However, the gales associated with Talim are still affecting some areas of the Pearl River estuary... the rain bands of Talim will also bring violent gusts to Hong Kong. Precautions should not yet be relaxed.”

The Hospital Authority said eight people have been injured and sought treatment at the accident and emergency unit of public hospitals as of 2pm.
