The Hong Kong Observatory lowered the storm signal to No.3 at 4.20pm as Typhoon Talim continued to move away from the SAR.

At 4pm, Talim was centred about 290 kilometres southwest of Hong Kong and was forecast to move west-northwest at about 18 kilometres per hour in the general direction of Leizhou Peninsula.

The No.8 signal had been in force for over 15 hours.

The government said it has received 55 reports of fallen trees, and two flooding cases.

The Hospital Authority, meanwhile, said nine people had been injured during the typhoon period and sought treatment at public hospitals.

Even though local winds have been weakening gradually, the observatory urged people to remain on the alert and stay away from the shoreline.

"Gale force winds will still affect the offshore waters to the southwestern part of Hong Kong at first, and up to storm force winds on high ground. The rain bands of Talim will also bring violent gusts to Hong Kong. Precautions should not yet be relaxed," the weatherman said in a statement.

The MTRC, bus companies and ferry operators said they would gradually resume normal service after the T8 signal was lowered.

Looking ahead, the forecaster said there will still be squally showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday. It will still be showery over the next few days, and the weather is expected to improve slightly towards the weekend.
