HK Electric on Wednesday said customers will see electricity charges fall for the third consecutive month in August, as it makes the most of cheaper international fuel prices.

The company, which supplies Hong Kong Island and Lamma, said the fuel clause charge will be lowered to 69.7 cents per kilowatt-hour, a 15.5 percent decrease from the beginning of the year.

"A corresponding drop will also be recorded for the average net tariff, which will be lowered to 184.2 cents per unit of electricity, from 197 cents in January," a spokesperson said.

"With the stabilisation of international fuel prices, the outlook for further reduction in the [fuel clause charge] in the remainder of the year is positive."

A typical three-person household using 275 units of electricity a month will pay HK$35.20 less for the tariff in August than it did in January, the firm said.

CLP Power, which provides electricity to Kowloon and the New Territories, will reduce its fuel surcharge to 57.1 cents per unit from August 1.
