A man died on Saturday morning in a number one alarm fire in Sham Shui Po.

Police said they received multiple reports of smoke coming from a unit on Yu Chau Street at around 8am.

They said 32 people were evacuated from the scene.

Five people were taken to hospital, and two are in critical condition.

Initial investigation indicates that someone may have burned charcoal, officers said.

The Sham Shui Po District Office opened the Nam Cheong Community Centre as a temporary shelter for those in need.
