Visitors to the Central Market will soon be able to get an idea of what Hong Kong's fish stalls used to look like back in the day, thanks to a new interactive display that will be going on show there.
The exhibit was based on a tattered photo of a fish stall in the 1950s, which has been restored using AI software and turned into a life-size wall display on the market's ground floor.
It also adopts movie-grade props and allows the public to take selfies.
Victor Wong, a visual and digital artist responsible for the project, said it was hard work putting everything together.
"Because this is from scratch, we need to find from the history archives. I think we have searched almost 500 pictures… without that picture, we do not know the environment at that time," he said.
"I used artificial intelligence to rescale the very small picture. With the artificial intelligence, we can sharpen the picture and the details. Even the face, facial details like the eyes and teeth can be resembled, so this is a very helpful tool."
The new display will be open to the public from Thursday.
