Vendors who’ve set up pop-up stalls at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal for a temporary bazaar said authorities need to upgrade the facilities and improve transport links to create a better welcome for visitors.

The bazaar had its soft opening at the terminal on Friday, one day ahead of the arrival of thousands of passengers on the Spectrum of the Seas cruise liner.

It’s part of an initiative taken by the industry to enhance the overall travel experience of cruise passengers, on top of government measures to strengthen transport access to the terminal building.

Among the products on offer at the bazaar are local snacks like egg rolls and souveniors such as key chains, postcards, soup packs and shampoo.

One pastry vendor said more needs to be done to liven up the terminal.

"The cruise terminal feels incredibly secluded and quiet, which might disappoint tourists upon their arrival," she said.

Kara Yeung from the Hong Kong Cruise and Yacht Industry Association, which co-organises the bazaar, said she believes the temporary market will attract not only tourists, but also local visitors.

“We would like to create a platform to promote Hong Kong brands and let international passengers know more about our brands,” she said.

Yeung added that the industry is also considering bringing in various performances to the terminal area to spice up the place.
