Visitors to Cheung Chau will get a first look at efforts to transform the island's historic cinema into a tourist destination next week.
The building, which is one of just two pre-war cinemas still standing in Hong Kong, has been decaying since its closure more than two decades ago.
An area adjacent to the 1931 cinema will open on Monday as a culture-themed attraction featuring bun-making workshops, filmmaking demonstrations, and outdoor screening events.
The site's owner hopes to reopen the cinema building itself as a restaurant in 2025.
