Chief Executive John Lee on Sunday said his Policy Address will include policies on retaining local workers and promoting tourism, as he discussed issues ranging from talent, technology and transportation to fertility at a consultation session.

Speaking with members of the public in Shau Kei Wan, Lee said the Policy Address – to be delivered in October – will build upon previously introduced policies, and that he will also set priorities and explore new aspects.

"The government's role is to open many big doors, but all people in Hong Kong have to work together... [After this session], I will know which doors should be opened, and how the government can take the lead.”

Some attendees at the session who were concerned about the SAR's low birth rate urged the government to provide tax deductions for parents, and allow women to freeze their eggs.

Some also urged the government to introduce policies to attract tourists from different countries, saying Hong Kong is losing its attractiveness.

"After the reopening of the border, most tourists are from the mainland. How can we attract tourists from the Southeast Asian region?" a man who works in Yau Tsim Mong District asked.

There were also those who were concerned about the territory’s smart-city development, with one saying Hong Kong’s smart car park facilities lag behind those on the mainland.

"There's serious traffic congestion and illegal parking in Sham Shui Po due to the lack of parking lots... The government should speed up building smart car parks," an attendee said.

In response, Lee said Hong Kong has its advantages in technology, but more can be done.

"I think we have to work even harder in putting technology into practice...such as smart parking and smart payment," he said.

The chief executive added district governance teams, to be established in the near future, will be able to help solve issues involving transportation, hygiene and housing.
