Chief Executive John Lee said on Thursday that government departments have been asked to be fully prepared for the worst-case scenario, as Super Typhoon Saola approaches Hong Kong.
In a Facebook post, Lee said more than 20 departments have been requested to make preparations, with Chief Secretary Eric Chan leading the planning and security chief Chris Tang coordinating the efforts.
The chief executive pointed out the path and intensity of the typhoon remain uncertain, and the government will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments accordingly.
He urged the public to pay attention to the latest weather conditions and take precautions to prevent wind damage.
The MTR Corporation, meanwhile, announced that high-speed train services between the SAR and the mainland will be affected because of Saola.
It said all high speed rail services to and from Hong Kong are suspended from noon on Friday and all services on Saturday will be cancelled.
It said earlier that about 30 trains scheduled to depart on Thursday from West Kowloon Station and the mainland had already been cancelled.
