The airport is swamped with passengers on Friday morning, as Super Typhoon Saola forces the delay or cancellation of hundreds of flights.
The Airport Authority said at least 360 flights in and out of the SAR from 2pm have been cancelled so far, while another 40 have been delayed.
Most services in the morning, meanwhile, were unaffected.
Many travellers said they were confused with the latest flight scheduling, adding that the contingency arrangements at the airport had been chaotic.
"We didn't know where to queue and we queued at the wrong place. Maybe due to the T8 signal, there is not enough staff here," one woman told RTHK.
Another woman who’s supposed to fly to London with her daughter on Friday night, also complained of the arrangements.
"My daughter has to be in London on Monday for the first day of school," she told RTHK.
"No staff helped us. We felt so helpless. All the hotels nearby are full, and they said it's better for us to wait at the airport."
The Airport Authority, for its part, said it will deploy extra manpower to assist passengers at the airport, adding that eateries and convenience stores will also extend their opening hours and bring in more supplies.
"We urge travellers to check their flight status from airlines, including flight capacity and departure time, before heading to the airport," Wing Yeung, the general manager of the authority’s terminal operations, said.
