American D-Day veteran John Siewert was a regular fixture at remembrance ceremonies in Hong Kong for more than a decade. At the age of 20, he steered a US destroyer off the coast of Normandy.
A recipient of the Legion of Honour medal, last November he was the only representative of the Second World War generation at the Cenotaph in Central.
Siewert, who volunteered to teach Hong Kong schoolchildren about his wartime experiences, died last month at the age of 99.
