The government said it will cancel the 'extreme conditions’ warning at midnight after reviewing the latest weather and traffic situation in Hong Kong.

The warning had been in force for almost 19 hours, after the SAR was hit by what officials described as a “once in 500 years” rainstorm that triggered floods and landslides, and wreaked havoc across the city.

Authorities said they received more than 140 reports of injuries, 60 reports of flooding and 39 cases of landslides during the rainstorm.

In a statement issued on Friday night, the government said the rain has eased off, while the road and traffic conditions have also improved considerably.

It said bus companies are bringing back many of their routes, and the MTR is also looking to resume full services.

The Hospital Authority announced it will resume out-patient clinics, specialist out-patient clinics, allied health services and other day services on Saturday.

All gazetted beaches, however, will remain closed on Saturday for urgent works after the heavy downpour.

A government spokesperson reminded people to stay vigilant and avoid places where landslides can occur.

Meanwhile, the Education Bureau said schools can decide for themselves whether to suspend classes on Saturday and Monday to ensure the safety of pupils.

It said more than 20 schools have reported damage to their facilities.
