The MTR Corporation on Saturday resumed full services along the Kwun Tong Line, after severe flooding forced the closure of a number of stations along the line.
The railway company added that even though it is reopening Wong Tai Sin station which was hardest hit by the floods, it will still take some time to fix facilities damaged by the deluge. The B3 entrance and exit remained closed.
CK Cheung, Chief of Cross Boundary Segment of the MTR Corp, said repair works have been going smoothly.
"Repair of the Wong Tai Sin station... actually the progress is going quite well. We need to first drain away the accumulated water in the tunnel, and also to repair the damage system and also the facilities inside the station," he said.
He called on passengers to be extra cautious as the platform doors will remain open at the station.
Cheung also dismissed concerns that the railway operator had ignored the safety of its repair workers by making them work in flooded tunnels.
"The safety of our staff is always our priority. Every time when we carry out such repair work and also follow-up actions, we will ensure we have our protection in place and also do the assessment before allowing our staff to do the repair works,” he stressed.
The MTR Corp said lifts and escalators at Wong Tai Sin Station are not in service, and that passengers in need should instead use Lok Fu or Diamond Hill stations for the Kwun Tong Line.
