Authorities on Sunday continued their inspection of Redhill Peninsula in Tai Tam, after torrential downpour last Thursday and Friday triggered a landslide in the area and affected the structural safety of some of the houses there.

Speaking at a government press conference, development minister Bernadette Lin said one of the houses – house number 72 – was in "immediate danger", and its tenants had been evacuated.

Sand, gravel, and soil could be seen sliding down the slope where the house stand, exposing its foundation.

Linn said initial investigation shows that there are unauthorised building works at the house, which is also suspected of illegally occupying government land.

"Our initial evidence shows that there is indeed some breach of leases, and also unlawful occupation. But our primary focus at the present moment is to stabilise the slope to ensure public safety. And once that is done, we will proceed with the necessary enforcement against the relevant breaches," she said.

Lin said two neighbouring houses at Redhill Peninsula also require further assessment because their retaining walls have been partially exposed following the landslide.

Their occupants have been told to temporarily close off their garden and outdoor swimming pool pending further checks.
