The Observatory on Monday morning said rain was particularly heavy in Sai Kung district, with more than 100 millimetres of rainfall recorded in just one hour up to 10am.

There've been several reports of floods in Tseung Kwan O, with some people said to be trapped in vehicles. At Ma Yau Tong village, a ten-metre wall collapsed, though no one was injured.

Forecasters called on residents in the district to take precautions to avoid possible flood damage. Drivers are being warned to expect serious road flooding and congestion.

A heavy rain advisory was also issued for Sha Tin at about 12.15pm, with more than 70 millimetres of rain expected in an hour. The Observatory warned of a risk of serious flooding.

Meanwhile the Transport Department said flooding had forced the closure of parts of Kwun Tong Road in both directions on Monday. It urged drivers to use other routes and said commuters should use public transport such as the MTR.

Transport Secretary Lam Sai-hung said Yiu Hing Road in Shau Kei Wan remained closed following a severe landslide triggered by the torrential downpour last week.

Speaking on a radio programme on Monday, the minister said officials would continue their repair efforts.

"The landslide near Yiu Hing House on Yiu Tung Estate was relatively severe. The collapsed slope covered a large area, so Yiu Hing Road still needs to be closed for repair work. Our repair works will go on. We are working to repair the closed roads and clean up the gravel," he said.

Meanwhile, bus services on Repulse Bay Road and Stubbs Road began operating on their usual routes on Monday after work to clear and repair the roads was completed. Nine bus routes had been truncated over the weekend.

Most schools operated as normal, but 10 called off in-person classes because of damage to their campuses.

One of them, Salesian English School, in Shau Kei Wan, said it was carrying out a full check on its campus. The pavement outside the school was completely ruined, with bricks falling apart exposing underground cables.
