Two tornadoes have struck Jiangsu province within hours, killing 10 people.
The first twister hit Daxing Township and Nancai Township in the city of Suqian at around 5pm on Tuesday.
Social media images showed overturned cars, downed power lines and flying debris, much of which littered the streets of Suqian, a city in the north of the province.
"I was at the door and witnessed the wind, solar energy devices, and trees flying in the air," wrote one Weibo user. "For those two minutes, I was dumbfounded."
Five people died and four were injured.
Authorities said 137 homes collapsed and 1,646 houses were damaged, affecting more than 5,500 people.
A second tornado in the evening killed five people and injured four in Yancheng city, about 190 kilometres southeast of Suqian.
Officials said power and road service had been restored in the area.
Weather warnings went out on Wednesday for Chongqing, several areas in Guizhou, southern Hunan, eastern Anhui and central Hubei. (Agencies)
