A worker died on Thursday after a concrete slab fell on him at a construction site in Hung Shui Kiu.
The slab reportedly weighed around three tonnes.
The victim, a 62-year-old truck driver, was pronounced dead at the scene on Hung Ping Road around noon.
The Labour Department said it was investigating the fatal accident.
The Hong Kong Housing Society, which manages the site, expressed its condolences to the driver's family, adding that it is giving them HK$300,000.
The society said its contractor Yau Lee Construction Company has suspended lifting operations.
A 25-storey residential block is being built at the site to provide around 300 subsidised homes next year.
