A French engineer was on Thursday granted bail after appearing in court to face a manslaughter charge over a fatal industrial accident at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge in 2017.

Two workers, aged 22 and 40, died after a temporary work platform they were working on collapsed in March 2017. Three others were injured.

The force had said that Remi Pierre Brouillet, who was hired by a contractor during the construction period, left Hong Kong after the incident and officers subsequently issued an arrest warrant for him.

The 39-yeard-old was arrested and charged upon arrival at the airport on Tuesday.

At a hearing at the Sha Tin magistracy, the engineer was released on a HK$100,000 bail and was ordered to surrender his travel documents.

The case has been adjourned to January 3, pending further police investigation.
