One hundred and eighty schools have been given the go-ahead to bump up tuition fees for this academic year, the Education Bureau announced on Thursday.

For those receiving public money under the Direct Subsidy Scheme, the average increase is a little over four percent.

The bureau also approved higher fees for 71 private schools, with an average increase of almost 5.5 percent.

Sixty-one international schools, meanwhile, will put fees up by an average of 4.5 percent.

Seven applications were rejected – five of which from international schools.

Meanwhile, the adjusted median tuition fees for whole-day and long whole-day kindergartens are about HK$940 for this school year, up HK$50 from last year.

The Education Bureau said the overall tuition fee for kindergartens remains at a low level.
