Police on Thursday arrested a second man in connection with the deaths in an industrial accident last Sunday of two men working underground at the Elements shopping mall. The 40-year-old was detained in Sha Tin on suspicion of manslaughter.
And in a reclassification of the case, police on Thursday also arrested a 62-year-old man, understood to be the contractor, on suspicion of manslaughter. He had initially been arrested on Wednesday for failure to ensure health and safety of employees.
Police will now lay a holding charge against him on one count of manslaughter and the case will be heard on Friday morning at Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts.
The two men who died were aged 63 and 61. It is thought they died from noxious fumes.
