People are taking the opportunity to eat out and enjoy themselves on National Day, with a range of discounts and concessions available to celebrate the occasion.

The government is offering free entry to museums and swimming pools, while cinemas are offering half-price tickets. There are also discounts on public transport.

More than 1,700 restaurants are offering discounts. A Chinese restaurant manager said customers were ordering more food.

"It's National Day, so people are happy... some families are ordering more dim sums," she said.

A teenager told RTHK she is happy she got her cinema ticket at half the price.

"As a student, I often feel that everything is expensive. The cinema ticket was 60 dollars, but today I got it for 30 dollars," she said.

Crowds are expected to gather on both sides of Victoria Harbour to watch the fireworks at 9pm. A man said he's looking forward to the event.

"We're going on a ferry to watch the fireworks. We booked our tickets a month ago," he said.

Some tourists from the mainland also said they came to watch the fireworks display, which has been suspended for five years because of the social unrest and the pandemic.
