Two security guards were injured in an alleged knife attack near the Central Government Offices on Wednesday morning.
Police said they received a report of an incident at about 10.20am on a footbridge near the government complex in Admiralty.
A male guard, 57, suffered a hand injury and another male guard, aged 60, suffered a leg injury, police said.
A suspect, 17, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of wounding.
The force said it was investigating the motive for the alleged attack.
"The government strongly condemned the violent act and stressed that the police would thoroughly investigate the case, strictly enforce the law and bring any offender to account," the government said in a statement.
A government spokesperson also said security officers at the complex have been told to remain on high alert and police are stepping up patrols nearby.
In a press briefing later in the day, assistant district commander Lam Kin-tat said according to their preliminary investigation, the suspect has had a history of autism and had not been involved in violent or criminal cases.
Lam also said the case did not seem to be politically motivated, and that there's no evidence government departments were targeted.
