Chief Executive John Lee on Sunday said his recent visit to the University of Science and Technology has deepened his belief that Hong Kong is well positioned to become an international higher education hub.

Writing on his Facebook page, Lee said he had breakfast with some exchange students at HKUST late last month to gather views for his upcoming Policy Address.

"I was very happy to know that they liked the education and working environment in Hong Kong, and that many of them were planning to stay in Hong Kong after graduation," he wrote.

The leader said the city has good education infrastructure, world-renowned universities and elite researchers to become an international education hub, and his team will look at ways to attract more outside talent.

"My team and I will study carefully how Hong Kong can build on this solid foundation and make full use of our unique status as well as our advantages of internationalisation and diversification under the 'One Country, Two Systems', to attract talent from all over the world and to help build the nation into a leading country in education and talent."
