Flood-prone areas in Hong Kong remained largely unscathed on Monday, despite typhoon Koinu dumping large amounts of rainfall over the territory over the past two days.

The Number 8 typhoon signal was downgraded at 11.40am after it was issued almost 24 hours ago, while the Black Rainstorm Warning was in effect for over six hours.

The Drainage Services Department said it has received nine flooding reports so far, but none of the cases were serious.

There was minor flooding in an underground car park in Chai Wan in the early hours of Monday morning, and some worried car owners – reminiscent of what happened last month – were quick to move their vehicles away from the ankle-deep water to avoid any potential damages.

The cark park at Wan Tsui Estate was heavily flooded by what authorities said were once-in-500-years downpours last month, leaving dozens of cars completely submerged.
