A public health adviser to the government on Saturday urged the public to get both flu and Covid shots as winter approaches.
Speaking on a Commercial Radio programme, David Hui said more than half of the patients diagnosed with severe cases of influenza recently had not received their flu shots.
He said now was a good time to get a jab, before the winter peak takes hold.
The Chinese University professor also said people should take the opportunity to receive the latest vaccine against Covid, as he expects cases to peak again next month.
"The last Covid peak was from April to June, especially in May. Generally, antibodies tend to decline to a lower level after about six months. Therefore, it is expected that there will be another peak around November," he explained after attending the programme.
He added that while health authorities aim to provide third-generation vaccines in December, high-risk individuals should not wait and should get vaccinated as soon as possible.
"We are calling on high-risk groups to get booster shots earlier if it has been more than six months since their last vaccination or infection," he said.
