Several parties have announced their candidates for the upcoming district council elections ahead of the nomination period, which begins on Tuesday.

The nomination period for the elections, slated for December 10, will last until October 30.

At a press conference on Sunday, the DAB said it expects to field over 100 candidates in the upcoming elections across all 44 directly-elected constituencies and District Committees constituencies.

DAB’s newly-elected chairperson, Gary Chan, said the party will announce who will run in the polls after a special committee meeting on Monday.

But Chan said a lot of resources need to be allocated for the large number of members who will stand in the election.

"If you want to run for the district council election, it's your own responsibility to get nominations. Anyone can join the election as long as you get enough nominations," he said.

"But now that we need to support [members who run in] the 44 District Council directly-elected constituencies, there's a lot of pressure. So I think this election is a huge challenge for the DAB party," he said.

Separately, the Business and Professionals Alliance announced it will send a sole candidate, Lee Chiu-yu, to stand for the Kowloon City North election.

The Hong Kong Association for Democracy and People's Livelihood said it will field two people for directly-elected seats. They are its general director Kwok Wai-shing, and current Tuen Mun District Councillor Chow Kai-lim.

Six people from the Democratic Party will stand for directly-elected seats, the party said, including its chairperson Lo Kin-hei, vice-chairperson Bonnie Ng and current Yau Tsim Mong Councillor Leo Chu.

Lo said his party has been trying to get in touch with the three District Committees to secure nominations.

"Last week, I received an extract of the voter registers from the Electoral Affairs Commission and got the contact information of District Committees constituencies, such as names and addresses. We will contact the three District Committees and send them information like our beliefs, policy address recommendations and manifesto."

The December polls feature a newly overhauled electoral system to make sure they are in line with a patriots-only principle.
