The High Island Reservoir, Tai O and Tai Lam Chung Reservoir have been selected by Hongkongers and visitors as the top three natural wonders in the SAR, according to a local think tank.

The Hong Kong Chronicles Institute said more than half a million people took part in its 'top ten natural wonders selection' campaign earlier this year, and voted for their favourite Hong Kong site.

Also in the top ten are Tai Mo Shan, Sharp Island, Shing Mun Reservoir, Ha Pak Nai, Tai Tong Sweet Gum Woods, Tung Ping Chau and Sunset Peak.

Rock Law from the institute said the these areas are highly popular because they are beautiful and easily accessible.

He urged the government to consider inviting local villagers to serve as tour guides so that visitors can have a better understanding of the respective sites.

“Of course experts can explain knowledge on natural habitats, but local villagers can participate and share their actual life memories – it is an important element,” Law said.
