Housing Secretary Winnie Ho on Friday said authorities will conduct risk assessments to ensure the supply of public housing flats.

She made the comment days after Aggressive Construction Engineering – a contractor linked to a fatal industrial accident – was ordered to wrap up its business due to safety concerns.

Its sister company, Aggressive Construction Company, which is responsible for four public housing projects, is also under review.

Ho told reporters that site safety is always the priority, adding that the progress of the projects have not been affected so far.

“There are so many challenges at the sites, such as bad weather or different problems during the pandemic. Based on the contract, we will conduct basic research on how to respond to different situations. I will make professional judgments with my colleague," she said.

Asked whether there will be other contractors taking over the projects if the firm’s ordered to stop operation, Ho said she will discuss with her team to find the best solution.

"We will study the terms carefully based on the contract. We have to be ready for different situations at the sites anytime. It’s inevitable that some projects will be affected, but the problem is how to control the risks and minimise the impact."

Aggressive Construction Company was involved in a fatal crane collapse at a Sau Mau Ping construction site in September last year, which killed three workers and injured another six.

Last week, an electrician also fell to his death at a Yau Ma Tei construction site overseen by the firm.
