Hong Kong is to get new MTR stations, a railway line and a highway extension, the chief executive's Policy Address revealed on Wednesday.
To boost development in the eastern part of the Northern Metropolis, the Northern Link railway will be extended to Ping Che via the Lo Wu South and Man Kam To areas, connecting new development sites and various border checkpoints, John Lee said.
The CE said a new railway will also be built to connect the Heung Yuen Wai checkpoint to Fanling Station, via Ping Che and Queen's Hill.
He added that the Northern Metropolis Highway will be extended from Fanling to connect with the Sha Tau Kok Road Interchange.
Meanwhile, in the western part of the New Territories, three new MTR stations will be built on the Central Rail Link, linking Northeast Tsuen Wan, Northeast Kwai Chung and Tsuen King Circuit to the Tsuen Wan Line.
Three areas of the territory will get what Lee described as "smart and green" mass transport systems, which could take the form of autonomous rapid rail, sky trains, or busways.
Hillside areas of Kwun Tong will be connected to Choi Hung and Yau Tong MTR stations, the old runway area of Kai Tak will be linked to Kai Tak Station, and Hung Shui Kiu and Ha Tsuen will be connected to the Tuen Ma Line.
Lee said the government will publish a transport development blueprint by the end of this year.
