Development minister Bernadette Linn on Sunday said the government is making concerted efforts to provide new land, as she highlighted the Northern Metropolis and Kau Yi Chau artificial islands projects as the primary sources of future land supply.

Writing on her official blog, Linn said over half of the 3,370 hectares of land supply expected in the next decade will come from the two projects.

“The Northern Metropolis will be divided into four major regions, from west to east: high-end professional services and logistics hub, innovative technology zone, port trade and industrial zone, blue-green leisure and tourism ecological circle. [On Monday], we will announce the ‘Action Agenda for the Northern Metropolis’ which will outline the projects and timetable for development in each region,” she said.

“Regarding the Kau Yi Chau artificial islands project involving about 1,000 hectares of land, the government will proceed with the environmental impact assessment process this year as scheduled, following public participation.”

Linn added that the government will also use existing land for development, including revitalising Hung Hom Station and its surrounding area, as well as developing former quarries on Lamma.
