The opening ceremony of the Gay Games was held at Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wan Chai on Saturday.
In a speech at the opening ceremony, Executive Council convenor Regina Ip said Hong Kong is the first city in Asia to host the Gay Games, which showed the spirit of inclusivity and tolerance of the SAR.
Several protesters who were against Hong Kong hosting the Games held up banners and gave out leaflets near Queen Elizabeth Stadium, saying they undermine traditional family values.
