Labour minister Chris Sun on Sunday said officials will follow up on two construction site accidents in as many days, one of which saw a worker die after being hit by a falling iron bar.

Speaking at an event in Cheung Sha Wan, Sun said government officials would be checking whether the codes of practice on lifting construction materials and working from a height had been followed.

"Everyone needs to take an extra step to ensure safety at construction sites. It's clear to everyone that in every-day work, lifting of materials and working from height, these are things we are concerned about and they have clear codes of practices. Once you follow them properly, you can ensure everyone's safety," he told reporters.

The minister said officials also pay attention to safety requirements at all sites, be they private or public works.

On Friday, a man died after being struck by a three-metre-long iron bar at a Hospital Authority site in Tung Chung. The following day, four people were injured at a highway project site in Yau Ma Tei. They were hit by falling iron bars after a cable snapped on a crane truck.
