Chief Executive John Lee visited several public housing estates on Wednesday and explained his Policy Address initiatives to members of the public.

He went to a daycare service centre for children at Tsz Lok Estate in Tsz Wan Shan, and visited a home-based child carer in nearby Tsz Ching Estate.

The CE in his policy blueprint proposed increasing the subsidy for carers of young children whose parents are at work, to encourage more people to take part in the Neighbourhood Support Child Care Project.

"We'll ramp up these services. Our goal is to double the number of children being cared for [by home-based carers] to 20,000 next year," he said.

"As for daycare service centres, we've proposed in the Policy Address to set up more of those, from 16 to 28 centres, in the span of three years."

Lee also chatted with residents and shop owners while inspecting the traffic condition at Shun Lee Estate in Kwun Tong. He said he was briefed by officials on the upcoming green transport project in East Kowloon.

Financial Secretary Paul Chan is attending the Apec summit in San Francisco on his behalf. "This time I assigned the financial secretary to attend Apec because of issues with my schedule," Lee said.

"As for the future, it would depend on my actual schedule then.

"I went to two countries in the Middle East and three Asean nations after the pandemic. Secretaries of bureaux and departments also visited different countries in Asia and Europe, as well as the United States. So every official will visit different places as their schedules allow, to enhance cooperation with different regions and explore business opportunities."
