The director of Beijing's liaison office on Monday said Hong Kong plays an irreplaceable role on the path of Chinese-style modernisation and the implementation of One Country, Two Systems.
Speaking at the Hong Kong Financial Forum, Zheng Yanxiong said the SAR's advantages as an international city will not be easily taken away despite global challenges.
"Language barrier-free, cultural barrier-free, and access to wealth across the seas, these international characteristics are the most distinctive features of Hong Kong. They are the key to Hong Kong's role as a superconnector in Chinese-style modernisation. In the face of any storms or challenges, they should not change, and will not change."
The liaison office chief added that the national security law has safeguarded investors and protected public interests.
Speaking at the same forum, Chief Executive John Lee said Hong Kong's rule of law has provided a safe environment for businesses to thrive.
"Facts speak louder than words. Under the solid foundation of the rule of law, Hong Kong provides a safe and stable business environment for investors and entrepreneurs, allowing them to flourish in this free and open society. Under the One country, Two systems principle, there are unlimited opportunities for development," he said.
"We welcome entrepreneurs from around the world to invest in Hong Kong, explore business prospects, and achieve win-win cooperation and high-quality development."
