China's home-grown C919 and ARJ21 aircraft will visit Hong Kong for the first time next week to showcase the country’s aviation development, the government announced on Tuesday.

The two aircraft will be on static display at the Chek Lap Kok airport from December 13 to December 15.

On December 16, the C919 plane will perform a demonstration flight above Victoria Harbour and then fly around Hong Kong Island twice.

The SAR authorities said the two aircraft are a testament to the country's accomplishment in the aircraft manufacturing industry.

"The successful productions of these two aircraft mark a significant milestone for the national aviation manufacturing industry," Chief Executive John Lee said.

"Choosing Hong Kong as the first city the C919 aircraft visits outside of the mainland fully shows the importance the country attaches to Hong Kong as an international aviation hub."

The C919, which came into service this year, is a large commercial passenger aircraft designed, manufactured and certificated in accordance with international airworthiness standards.

The ARJ21 is the first turbofan regional aircraft independently designed and manufactured by China. It was brought into the international market last year.
