Secretary for Justice Paul Lam on Sunday urged members of the public not to over-interpret the government's move to hand out thank you cards to those who voted in the District Council Elections.
He spoke to reporters after casting his ballot.
“The government wants to express thanks to residents who care about their community with the thank you cards – people really shouldn’t overthink it. And I feel that all the things the government has done was to encourage people to use the rights that we have and not to waste such a precious asset.”
The voter turnout rate for geographical constituencies at 10.30am was 6.24 percent, with 270,310 people having cast a ballot.
