An aircraft engineer said on Monday that China's home-grown C919 aircraft had been designed to international standards that are even stricter than those of Airbus and Boeing 737.

China's C919 and ARJ21 aircraft will visit Hong Kong for the first time on Tuesday to showcase the country's aviation development.

Warren Chim, deputy chairman of the Aircraft Division of the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers, said the certification process for these aircraft involves extensive testing to ensure they meet aviation standards, including thousands of hours of test flights, emergency tests and tests under extreme weather conditions.

He added that the SAR's Civil Aviation Department was involved in the initial research and development of the C919 aircraft.

He said this cooperation is expected to help the C919 plane obtain an airworthiness certificate in Hong Kong in the future.

Chim also mentioned that the aircraft's visit could stimulate people's interest in aviation.

The C919, which came into service this year, is a large commercial passenger aircraft designed, manufactured and certificated in accordance with international airworthiness standards.

The ARJ21 is the first turbofan regional aircraft independently designed and manufactured by China. It was brought into the international market last year.
