Chief Executive John Lee on Wednesday said Hong Kong is proud to be contributing to China's home-grown aircraft.
He also said the visit of the two mainland-made planes - the C919 and the ARJ21 - reflects the emphasis placed by the country on the city's aviation development and its status as an aviation hub.
Speaking at a welcoming ceremony, Lee said the successful production of the two aircraft marked a significant milestone for the nation's aviation industry.
Lee added that the SAR was involved in the certification process for the planes and pilot training, among other things.
"Hong Kong has participated in the certification work of the two aircraft...contributing to the country's aviation industry," he said.
"One of the pilots who flew the C919 from Shanghai to Hong Kong is a flight expert sent from the Civil Aviation Department to take part in the certification work of the C919, and also is among the first batch of C919 pilots. We are proud of that."
The CE, along with other guests, later toured the C919 and ARJ21 aircraft.
The two planes are currently on display at Chek Lap Kok airport. The C919, a larger passenger aircraft, will conduct a fly-past over Victoria Harbour on Saturday, if the weather permits.
