China’s homegrown aircraft, the C919, on Saturday flew over Victoria Harbour on Saturday.

The mainland-made plane wowed spectators on the ground as it flew at an altitude of as low as 1,000ft over the harbour. It took off for its tour over the SAR just before 10.30am from Chek Lap Kok Airport.

The Civil Aviation Department had established a temporary restricted flying zone in and around the harbour, banning activities such as drone-flying.

Plane spotters hoping to catch a glimpse of the C919 were out early to get the best position along the waterfront.

The plane has a range of up to 5,555 kilometres, meaning it could cover routes from Hong Kong to much of Asia.

It is one of two mainland-made aircraft being showcased in the SAR. The other is the smaller ARJ21.
