An exhibition featuring late Cantopop queen Anita Mui will start running at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum from Sunday.

"Timeless Diva: Anita Mui" commemorates the 20th anniversary of the star's passing, and will feature 70 sets of exhibits, including her stage costumes, movie posters and award trophies.

Joseph Chow, an assistant curator with the museum, said the legendary icon has made remarkable contributions to Hong Kong’s pop culture.

"I would like more young people to know more about Anita Mui, especially the ones who were born in the 2000s. Because popular culture is a representation of our life," he said.

Museum director Brian Lam said the exhibition celebrates Mui’s many achievements in music and film.

He added that prominent fashion designer Eddie Lau – who worked with Mui through the heights of her career and remained a lifelong friend – has made valuable donations to the exhibition.

"[Eddie Lau] has many costumes [of Anita], which are very eye-catching and important items to display or to illustrate the performing career of Anita Mui," he said.

The event will run for nine months until September 2. Organisers expect visitor numbers to hit 200,000.
